Pharmacist Shares Why She Skips These 3 Popular Vitamin Supplements

Navigating the world of vitamins and supplements can be daunting, especially with the myriad of advice available on social media. Amina Khan, a UK-based pharmacist and the founder of The Pharmacist Beauty, recently shared her insights on TikTok, revealing three supplements she personally avoids. With her video garnering nearly one million views, Khan’s perspective has resonated with many. Here’s a closer look at the supplements she recommends steering clear of.

Gummy Vitamins

Gummy vitamins might seem like a tasty way to get your nutrients, but Khan has a different view. She describes them as “basically just a sugar pill.”

“You might as well go have a sweet,” she remarked, highlighting that these gummies are often “packed with sugar and filler ingredients.”

The ease with which these can be over-consumed is concerning, as it may lead to mineral toxicity. Furthermore, Khan pointed out that “some of these gummies don’t even have enough nutrients in them to have an effect on you.”

Multivitamins

Multivitamins are frequently recommended for their convenience in providing a range of essential nutrients. However, Khan suggests they might not be as beneficial as one might think.

She explained that multivitamins contain “a bit of everything,” but the doses of each vitamin can be “so low they hardly have an effect on you.”

Moreover, not everyone needs all the vitamins included in a multivitamin, making them a less targeted solution for individual health needs.

Hair, Skin, and Nail Vitamins

These vitamins have surged in popularity, promising benefits like improved hair and nail growth and clearer skin. Nevertheless, Khan is skeptical of their efficacy.

She believes that grouping all these benefits into one pill is “not solution-focused.”

“The most important vitamins in these are often too low to even have an effect on you,” she noted, suggesting that individualized approaches might be more effective.

In the realm of supplements, it’s crucial to make informed choices. While gummy vitamins, multivitamins, and hair, skin, and nail supplements are popular, Amina Khan’s insights offer a fresh perspective on their potential drawbacks. For those considering supplements, consulting with a healthcare professional for tailored advice is always a wise step.

You always need to look at the % of Daily Recommended dosage for any vitiamins. They are meant to be a supplement, not to give you everything of every vitamin you need.
